Why I Blog (And Why You Should Too)

I blog for spite — or as it’s more formally known, defensive publication. I have good ideas, sometimes great ones, but I’m never going to make a million dollars off them. So why should some multi-billion dollar company profit from the same idea while I lose access to it?

I also blog to feel better. If my workplace doesn’t want my ideas, why keep them rattling around in my head? Better to put them out into the world where like-minded people can find them — and find me.

And finally, I blog to truly understand my own ideas. Feynman said you only really understand something when you can explain it simply. Blogging forces you to do exactly that — strip an idea down to its core. And when you can do that, you’ve got it.
